Ancient Libraries

Did you know that libraries have been a part of culture since the ancient times? Library of Alexandria was one of the largest and most significant libraries of that time. Constructed in the 3rd century BC, it was one of and contained hundreds of thousands of papyrus scrolls. Their combined value was incalculable. Unfortunately the library was burned down in mysterious circumstances.

Oldest Book in the World

Did you know that the oldest known book in the world is a several-page-long volume held by the Bulgaria’s National Museum of History? The book, estimated at about 2,500 years old, is comprised of six pages of beaten 24-carat gold covered with Etruscan script. Discovered in an old tomb, it carries text and images of a horseman, a mermaid, a lyre, and warriors.
